Autumn Colours.JPGThe colours of Autumn are starting to show across Adelaide.  Following some rain and a few sunny days.  Driving from Brighton down to Burnside this morning, a number of roads were a gorgeous combination of reds, yellows and orange amongs the greens.  Had to stop and take some pictures of a hint of the colour of autumn.

Auction..and sold

As I was walking back from my coffee and walk at the beach this morning, I ventured past an Auction in-progress.  It was for a site of land only (no buildings) and so out of interest I decided to stay.  There is something strangely powerful about an auction and I was very careful to keep my hands to my side and not say anything just in-case.  Initially I thought no one was going to bid at all and the auctioneer commenced with a vendor bid to get things going.

Going once, twice and three times before a proper bid was put in.  Then a couple of people bidded against each other for about 5 minutes.  The bidding was interesting when the train went past and you couldn't hear what the auctioneer was actually saying for a few minutes!!

Land sold, $392,000

People do like the beach and where I am currently renting is really prime real estate with public transport, beach and shops close by.  Wish I had $392K cash to spare 🙂

I went to see a different type of movie today (cheap Tuesday!).  'March of the Penguins' is a documentary about the Emperor penguins journey of life and love. It follows their journey to find a mate, and survive over the winter of Antartica to protect and care for their young.  Amazing photography, and I learnt something new about this amazing bird. March of the Penguins.

There were lots of interesting facts that I didn't know and of course the 'cute baby penguins' shots and a few touches of humour rounded off the movie well.  If you would like, check out the official web site link above (it might take a short while to load up).  I can definitely recommend this movie for everyone.

Anzac Day

Until today, I had never been to an Anzac Day Dawn service.  Many a year I have thought about it, but to be honest the 'dawn' part has always been a bit of a turn-off.  This year, I was contemplating it again, with a local service at the beach at Brighton where I live.  I knew there was a chance I was going to bail again, but driving home last night from the gym I was listening to a pre-football match service (believe it or not).  The message was sacrifice, those who gave their lives for their country and made the ultimate sacrifice.  I could not believe that I had missed this experience for the sake of sacrificing a few extra hours sleep..

So, up early this morning, I attended my first Dawn Service at the Brighton War Memorial.  There were lots and lots of peope, bagpipes, songs, lest we forget and the amazing colours of the sky as the dark turned to light.  I couldn't really see much of the speakers, but I could soak it all up non-the-less.  I could feel the energy, the saddness and it sounds really unusual for me, but the 'spirituality' of the moment.

Following the service, I took a walk down at the beach as it was only moments away.  Part-way up there was a lone dolphin coming in and out from shore.  Just that bit far ahead of me that I couldn't quite photograph it, but always a mood lifter just to see them cruising along.  This one was playing games I am sure, with surges of motion.  Finished my morning off with some eggs and tomato on toast at a beach cafe, all before 9 in the morning.  What a great start to the day.

Check out the following site The Song Tapper, for a bit of light relief.  Tap your song using the space bar and the Song Tapper attempts to work out what it is.  My first selection Wish you a Merry Christmas was a score..second option Shudupa your face not in the listing I reckon. Keyboard

If you are really keen, you can add new songs to the already largeish list of 19880 songs..

I had to go and get the dreaded passport photos done today, in order to renew my passport which expires in August. Just in case you were having a good day and not feeling fat, ugly, tired or just generally crap, after viewing a passport photo, all of the above!!!

But seriously, what a shocker..Hope they will still let me into another country 🙂

I'm Excited!!

Received the first 4 movies from Bigpond Movies.  I have joined up for a 1 month free trial.  You just need to join up with Big Pond Movies and then make some movies selections.  Within 2 days (very impressed) they send out the DVDs in a reply paid package.  When you return them, then you get another.

Have put in a few reservations as well as a buffer of new movie selection.

For this weekend, we have King Kong, Harry Potter and Batman.  No real culture in there, going for the entertainment value only for the first few.  If you come across any good movies, or anything you think is worth a look, drop me a line, cause I will be doing regular movie preview for those who are interested..

PS – the service costs after the first month trial, but different plans are available at very reasonable prices
